Agriculture university and college students come together with sponsors at AWC!

Two things make the AWC Student program successful:

  1. Students who are excited about starting their career path with a blast of inspiration, some great direction, and a network of leaders at their fingertips.
  2. Industry leaders who will join us in sponsoring and supporting these students and future leaders, giving them the opportunity to attend AWC and reap the benefits.

AWC matches students from agricultural degree and diploma programs across Canada with companies looking to invest in future leaders!

Sonika Pariyar

University of Alberta, 2nd year, MSc. Plant Science

I am a passionate agriculture student permanently from Nepal. My passion towards agriculture started since my childhood, seeing my parents working in the farm. Following my passion, I did my bachelor degree in agriculture back in my home country. During my undergrad, I was involved in various research activities mainly focused on plant science. Apart from academic, I was involved in various organization such as Amnesty International Network, worked as a Survey enumerator at the National Census of Agriculture, Nepal. After my graduation, I worked as a agriculture technician at a private agriculture company, Kisan Care Nepal where I was involved in solving various production related problems of farmers.

Currently, I am in my second year of a master degree in Plant Science at the University of Alberta. My research focus is on root rot disease, Aphanomyces, which has been one of the major threat in pulse crop production in the Canadian prairies. We are trying to see the impact of zeolite seed coating as a management alternative of the Aphanomyces root rot diseases mainly focus on field pea.

I came to know about the event through university mail. Few minutes after I saw the advertisement of the conference, I felt like I shouldn’t miss this opportunity. I think attending “Advancing Women Conference 2025” would be a great opportunity to meet all the inspiring women across Canada. I saw the agendas of conference where people from diverse background is attending and presenting , it will be great to know about their stories, work and achievement. This will be my first experience of attending any such event in Canada. I believe it’s common platform where we can empower each other. I am sure I will come home back with a lot of motivation and courage to work even better and harder in my field. I hope I will develop the confident and leadership skills through the conference which will help me to achieve my career objective as a researcher focused in plant science.
