In reply to Janet Dimond. Janet you raised an interesting point - how does one deal with "everyone in town" knowing your business. I came from a very small town, ( our closest neighbor was 5 miles away)and our phone system was a party line, as there were no private phone lines - well, that was a community all on its own!

This is one of the most resilient woman farm stories I have ever read. There are many woman out there like Vicki. I volunteer at a Organic Farm also in Ontario run by a woman. The strength and love they have for their gardens and the ability to grow and share and instill the love in gardening in others is truly a gift. I am honoured to be part of such a strong, loving , giving, dedicated , hard working amazing smart community of woman farmers.
